The students and teachers at the School of Nations, in accordance with the ideal of world citizenship and a belief in the oneness of humanity, undertook fundraising activities at both the primary and secondary levels, in order to raise money for the victims of the S.E Asian tsunami
disaster in December 2004.
The focus was on the need for a genuine sacrifice by the students. Consequently a spell-a-thon was organized at the primary level - which involved students exerting effort to memorize vocabulary – to raise money from family and friends. At the secondary level, students were required to seek sponsors from the community for a charity run which took place around Guia Hill on Friday, 20th
January, 2005.
Altogether, the School of Nations raised 145,000
Macau Patacas. This money was presented to the Macau Red Cross. It is hoped that this activity – with the aim of helping affected people to rebuild lives – can further strengthen students’ understanding of the meaning of service to society, and enable them to reach out without hesitation to those in need and become active participants in world affairs.
