Character Development
At the School of the Nations we expect students to use their intellectual, academic and physical abilities for the benefit of humanity. This requires paying particular attention to the development of the character of each student. A good or moral character of an individual is demonstrated by concrete actions in a variety of situations. Since it is not possible to address every possible action, a series of moral capabilities have been identified to organize our efforts. For example the capability of:
- Being a caring and responsible family member.
- Building unity in diversity.
- Encouraging others and bring joy to their hearts.
- Pursuing personal affairs with rectitude.
- Promoting responsible stewardship of the natural resources.
Each capability is a combination of interacting qualities, attitudes, understandings, skills and habits. These elements also overlap among the various capabilities. Love for instance is important in many capabilities but in different ways; love for family, love of diversity, love for others, love of self, love for nature.
Starting in the kindergarten the School of the Nations applies award winning programs to nurture the various elements of many moral capabilities in all students. These efforts are also woven directly and indirectly into the academic, social and physical development programs.
